The Siegel Center rocked a little harder Tuesday night as Ram Nation welcomed back a familiar face, former coach and current Texas head coach, Shaka Smart. VCU hosted the Longhorns in a game that has been circled on Ram fans’ calendars for quite some time. Despite much anticipation, it was not the outcome VCU fans had hoped for. VCU chipped away at the Longhorns 19 point lead but fell just short, 71-67.
Senior Justin Tillman led all scorers with 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Senior Khris Lane scored 15 points and collected 5 rebounds.
The Longhorns shot 51% from the field to VCU’s 40%. Both teams hit 7 three pointers on the night but VCU took 9 more of them, ending the night 7-25 from behind the arc.
VCU’s big’s had their work cut out for them but the Rams were able to beat Texas on the glass, 38-33.
The loss moves VCU to 5-4 on the season. The team will travel to New Jersey to play Seton Hall on Saturday December 9th as part of the Never Forget Tribute Classic.
