VCU welcomed the Winthrop Eagles into town Tuesday evening. In the 107th consecutive sellout, Ram Nation grabbed their 7th win on the season behind another double double from Senior Justin Tillman. Scoring, from their center, along with defense earned the Rams a 69-55 win.
Tillman scored 22 points and collected 11 rebounds. Two other Rams saw double digit scoring. Richmond native and Sophomore transfer, Mike’l Simms dropped in 16 on the night in just 19 minutes of action and grabbed 5 rebounds.
Sophomore De’Riante Jenkins also had 5 rebounds and chipped in 13 points in the win.
Both teams probably would like to have a mulligan on shooting for the game. Winthrop shop just 34% on the night but VCU’s performance wasn’t much better, just 40% from the field.
Winthrop turned the ball over 15 times but VCU managed to turn it over 17 times.
VCU moves to 7-5 on the season and will host Virginia Military Institute on Friday, December 22nd at 7pm.
