Lane leads VCU in win; defeats George Mason 84-76

After a nerve-racking overtime win in Saint Louis on Wednesday, the Rams traveled up to Fairfax on Saturday looking to get another win. In the 58th meeting between VCU and George Mason, since 1981, the Rams would take the lead and never really look back in the 84-76 victory.

Senior Khris Lane led all Rams in scoring and rebounding with 25 points and 12 boards. The Richmond native did it all in 25 minutes. Lane was 11-13 from the field shooting 84% in the game.

Fouling out did not keep Senior Justin Tillman from achieving his usual double-double. He chipped in 18 points whiling grabbing 11 rebounds.

As far as defensive rebounds, the teams were fairly matched 28-20, VCU and GMU respectively. The offensive rebounding story is a little different. VCU owned the Patriots on the glass, out rebounding them 20-7.

Despite winning by just 8 points, VCU dominated most of the game, with their largest lead of 17 points, 68-51 with 7:33 left in the game.

Sophomore De’Riante Jenkins scored 15 points on 5-10 shooting from the field while senior Johnny Williams scored 10 points and contributed 6 assists.

Both teams shot 42% from the field, VCU on 28-66 shooting and GMU with 23-54.

The win moves VCU to 14-8 (6-3) on the season. VCU returns to the Siegel Center on Friday February 2nd as they host Rhode Island at 7pm. The game will be televised on ESPN 2.
