Video: Rams lose heartbreaker to Patriots on senior night, 81-80 [INSIDER]

VCU faced the George Mason Patriots on Wednesday night for the second time this season. The first time these two met this season, January 27th in Fairfax, VCU got the win. VCU’s senior night game did not have a happy ending for the seniors involved as the Rams lost a heartbreaker at the buzzer, 81-80.

After leading a majority of the final few minutes, VCU watched it slip away as George Mason sophomore Ian Boyd tipped in the game winner, leaving just 0.8 seconds on the clock.

This marked Boyd’s 3 buzzer beater in the past 3 games.

Sophomore Mike’l Simms had a career night knocking down 6 of 11 three pointers, leading all Rams in scoring with 20 points.

3 other Rams scored in double digits. Right behind Simms was sophomore Issac Vann with 18, seniors Khris Lane with 13 and Justin Tillman with 10. Tillman also grabbed 11 rebounds, making that his 15th double-double on the season.

Before the game, the Siegel Center honors the VCU seniors, Justin Tillman, Johnny Williams and Khris Lane.

The loss moves VCU to 16-14 (8-9) on the season. VCU will travel to New York on Saturday, March 3rd to face Fordham at 2pm. The game will be televised locally on CBS6.
