Wednesday evening the Rams traveled just a few short miles to the other side of town for the second meeting of the season against University of Richmond. In the first meeting, Richmond handed VCU one of their worst losses in recent history. This time around, VCU was hoping for a different result but after Richmond’s 2nd half comeback, VCU would lose in heartbreaking fashion, 77-76.
In a game that saw senior point guard Johnny Williams in street clothes due to injury, sophomore Malik Crowfield would start in his absence. Crowfield and 3 others would end their night in double digit scoring. Crowfield scored 11 while sophomores Issac Vann and De’Riante Jenkins both chipped in 14 while senior Justin Tillman led them all with 21 points. Tillman also grabbed 7 rebounds.
While VCU has turned the ball over more, every one tonight seemed to be crucial with a few coming in the final minute of play that allowed Richmond to finish their 12 point comeback.
The loss moves VCU to 14-10 (6-5) on the season. VCU will host Dayton on Saturday, February 10th at 6pm.
