VCU adds 2019 preferred walk-on Arnold Henderson, nephew of VCU legend

VCU has added their first piece to their 2019-2020 class with the commitment of preferred walk-on, Arnold Henderson. The St. Christopher’s product comes to the Rams with some black and gold pedigree as well, joining the school where his uncle, VCU legend Gerald Henderson, played before moving on to a successful NBA career.

“I’m very excited. I’m very honored to be a part of the VCU program and to play for coach [Mike] Rhoades,” Henderson said. “I’ve loved VCU my whole life, and I can’t wait to start working hard. It’s my dream school and I love VCU.”

Henderson will finish his high school career at St. Chris before moving to Broad St., starting his 2018-19 season as team captain following a junior season that saw the local product hit 36% of his three-point attempts.

“This is a fantastic match,” Saints basketball coach Hamill Jones ’00 said. “Arnold loves VCU and the VCU program, and he recognizes that it is an honor to wear the VCU jersey. Arnold will bring his absolute best to VCU and will help make their program better, just like he has at St. Christopher’s.

“That is the kind of person he is and that is how his parents raised him. Coach Rhoades is a phenomenal coach, and he wants players who live in the gym and expect that their teammates do the same, and Arnold is that type of player.”
