Recap: UVA outlasts VCU in Charlottesville; 57-49

After a thrilling win in Austin, Texas on Wednesday, VCU traveled up the road to Charlottesville Sunday to finish a home and home series against the 4th ranked University of Virginia.  After battling and keeping it neck and neck for a majority of the game, UVA outlasted VCU 57-49.

Only one Ram would see double digit scoring in the game.  Junior Issac Vann scored 10 points and grabbed 3 rebounds.  Vann shot 4 of 10 on the day.

Junior De’Riante Jenkins and one other were right behind with 8 points against the Cavaliers.  After a nice shooting performance on Wednesday, Jenkins had the green light, shooting the ball 14 times, connecting on 3 of them.

Junior Marcus Santos-Silva doubled down after a strong performance on Wednesday against Texas and scored 8 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against the 4th ranked team in the nation.  

VCU won the turnover battle.  UVA, known for not turning the ball over, turned it over 3 more times than the Rams.  The cavaliers turned it over 12 to VCU’s 9.

The black and gold also bested the Hoos in the paint, outscoring the cavaliers 20-10.

The loss moves VCU to 7-3 on the year.  The Rams will host College of Charleston on Saturday, December 15th at 4pm. The game will be televised on NBC Sports Network.
