VCU punched their first NCAA tournament ticket of the Mike Rhoades era today, the Rams hearing their name called on Selection Sunday for a matchup with the Central Florida Knights of the American Athletic Conference that will take place this Friday, March 22 in Columbia, SC.
The honor gets VCU back to the dance after missing the tournament last season, snapping what was a seven-year tournament streak heading into Rhoades’ first season as head coach at VCU.
The black and gold will compete in the East Region, with a potential matchup against Zion Williamson and the Duke Blue Devils if the Rams can get past 9th-seeded Central Florida, a balanced AAC team led by a dangerous backcourt duo of B.J. Taylor (16 ppg) and Aubrey Dawkins (15.2 ppg), as well as 7’6 310-pound big man, Taco Fall.
A shocking two-game win streak in Columbia (Duke being the No.1 overall seed) would send VCU to DC for regional semi-final action.
