Rams add Mikeal Brown-Jones to 2020 class

After a Jamir Watkins morning commit that had Ram fans buzzing, the black and gold bookended the day with another 2020 commitment, this time in the form of 6’7 power forward, Mikeal Brown-Jones.

The rising high school senior made his announcement Friday evening via his Twitter account.

The rising IMG Academy senior had initially committed to Penn State before reopening his recruitment this past April. The Philadelphia native held offers from a number of Atlantic 10 schools as well as hometown Temple and Villanova.

Brown-Jones becomes the fourth player to commit to VCU’s 2020 class, joining Watkins, small forward Josh Banks and point guard Ace Baldwin. The Rams will graduate five players following this upcoming season, so will have at least one more spot to fill for next year’s incoming class.

Brown-Jones has been described as a defense-first big who can block shots and rebound. He began his high school career at Roman Catholic in 2016, winning a Class 4A state title team as a freshman reserve. From there he transferred to Girard College, reclassified to the Class of 2020, and competed in another PIAA Class A title game in 2017 while averaging 22.0 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.3 blocks that season.

This past season Brown-Jones went beyond states however, transferring to IMG where he went on to win a national championship alongside Richmond native and former VCU target turned UNC commit, Armando Bacot.
