Davidson’s Kellan Grady scored 18 points in 33 minutes as the Wildcats defeated VCU 75-65 on Friday night.
Bones Hyland led VCU in scoring with 17 points, shooting 6-10 overall, and 5-7 from deep. Marcus Santos-Silva scored 12 points, 5 rebounds, but fouled out at the 4:20 mark in the 2nd half.
Marcus Evans (knee injury) returned to the court for the first time since February 21st, where he scored 7 points, 2 rebounds in the effort.
A bright spot for VCU was its freshman performance, with a combined shooting effort of 12-22 (55%) overall.
The Rams led the Wildcats 53-51 at the 12:09 mark in the 2nd half, but Davidson would then go on a 22-2 run by the 4:20 mark, all but sealing victory for the home team.
VCU finishes its regular season at 18-13 (8-10 A-10), the first time with a losing record in conference play since joining the Atlantic 10.
VCU, now the 9 seed, will play their first game of the Atlantic 10 tournament in Brooklyn, NY on Thursday, March 12th at 12:00pm.
