VCU’s home opener looked and sounded a little different this year. After initially set to allow up to 1,000 spectators into the Siegel Center, after restrictions, only 250 could file into the Stu to see the Rams welcome Mount St. Mary’s from the Northeast Conference.
After suffering a tough loss at the buzzer against Penn State, VCU looked to bounce back. It was a little sluggish of a start for the Rams but that would not last long as VCU put on an offensive display, going on a 17-0 run, ending the half 37-20.
The Rams’ leading scorer, sophomore Bones Hyland had 11 points at the break and 14 for the game but it would be a full team effort on the afternoon.
Senior Levi Stockard III scored 8 points in a strong performance while Mikeal Brown-Jones chipped in 6 along with sophomore Tre Clark III and junior Vince Williams.
VCU will host North Carolina A&T on Wednesday, December 9th at 7pm. The game will be televised on ESPN +.
