VCU rebounds; Defense smothers Vanderbilt on the road

The defense of VCU (2-1) absolutely smothered Vanderbilt en route to a 48-37 win in their first true road game of the year.

The Commodores were held to just 12 made field-goals from the floor on 53 attempts (23%).

VCU menacingly defended the three point line as well as Vandy shot an abysmal 8% total on 2-25 attempts from range.

The Rams shot 32% and 31% on field-goal and three-pointers, respectively.

VCU also parlayed 21 Vandy turnovers into 20 points—almost half of the Rams total offense came from turnover production.

The bench for the Rams added 26 points and nine different players ended with their name on the scoreboard.

Jayden Nunn, who for the first time this season did not start the game, added 11 points and 2 assists in his 28 minutes of action.

Vince Williams led the Rams with 14 points on the night, despite having to sit a large portion of the second half after picking up his 4th foul with 14 minutes to play. Williams shot 4-8 from distance tonight and account for all but two of the three’s hit by the Rams. He also tallied 6 rebounds.

Hason Ward matched a career-high with 5 blocks, while also tallying a team-high 8 rebounds.

Overall the Rams out rebounded Vandy 43-38. It was the first time VCU finished the game winning the battle of the boards.

Scotty Pippen Jr. came into tonights game averaging 22.5 points-per-game. The Rams held him to single digits with 8 points on 2-10 shooting from the floor.

Jordan Wright of the Commodores led all-scorers with 15 points.

The Rams return to action on Saturday, November 20th, as they head back to Richmond to take on University of Tennessee  Chattanooga.  That game is set to tip at 4pm EST.

Awesome bounce back! LOVED the effort even on the drives that didn't net points. It translated into a completely different view of what 48 points can look like. The lowest scoring game this season (I know sample size = 3) was a completely different look. Hoping this cracked the egg and the chicks will hatch this week!
