VCU (6-4) defeated ODU (5-6) on the road in Norfolk in a typical rock fight battle, 75-66.
The Rams were anchored by Vince Williams, who finished with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Levi Stockard III also put up 16 points, and helped stave off ODU forward Kalu Ezikpe, a threat that was elevated without the presence of Hason Ward, who is out with an ankle bone bruise.
The Monarchs led the Rams in the entirety of the first half, outscoring VCU 37-31.
In typical VCU / ODU fashion, this was a completely rock fight for much of the game.
Ace Baldwin led VCU in scoring in the first half with 8 points, while Josh Banks came hot off the bench to contribute 7. Banks’ efforts would continue to elevate the Rams, and keep them within a few possessions through the first half.
ODU led the Rams for the first 23 minutes of regulation, until Vince Williams hit a 3-pointer to put the Rams up 40-38 with 17:03 remaining.
Marcus Tsohonis hit two crucial 3-pointers in the 2nd half at the 5:20 and 3:05 mark, each to give the Rams a 6 and 8 point cushion, respectively. Tsohonis also hit back to back FTs at the 1:31 mark to give the Rams a 9 point lead. He finished with 8 points total, all of which came in the last 5:20 of play.
VCU will return to the Siegel Center in Richmond to face Florida Atlantic on Wednesday, December 15th at 7:00 PM.
