With just two minutes left in the first half, VCU (18-7; 11-3 A10) found themselves on the wrong side of an 8-2 run and trailing the Spiders by 8 points.
VCU Coach, Mike Rhoades called a timeout to regroup and settle the Rams leading up to the halftime break.
The timeout was the spark for a 18-3 run for the VCU over the next five minutes of play.
Ace Baldwin connected on a layup to break the Spiders original run.
Nick Kern followed that with a three-point play, and Vince Williams connected from range to tied that game at 28 going into the locker room.
VCU started the second half hitting 8 of their first 10 shot attempts and finished the half shooting 17-30 overall for 57%.
Baldwin finished the night with a time-high 5 assists and matched teammate, Vince Williams, with a game-high 15 points.
Jalen DeLoach played 23 minutes with Hason Ward out of action. Deloach shared a team-high 7 rebounds with Mikeal Brown-Jones.
In only 11 minutes of play, Brown-Jones put up an impressive 11 points on 4-5 shooting, and 3-4 from the free throw line.
Both teams did a good job protecting the ball, as they both turned the ball over only 8 times.
The Rams out-rebounded the Spiders by a 42-31 margin while putting up 13 second-chance points.
VCU also pounded the Spiders in the paint on the offensive end where the Rams scored 40 points in the paint.
The Spiders were held to just 24% shooting from range, and 36% shooting from the floor overall.
The 77-57 victory tonight was the Rams 5th-straight, and their eighth win in their last nine games.
VCU also secured the regular season sweep of the crosstown Spiders with tonights win.
VCU will return to action on Wednesday, February 23rd, as they host the Patriots of George Mason. That game is set to tip at 7:00pm EST and will be broadcast on MASN2.
