VCU big man, Hason Ward, will reportedly transfer this offseason. The news was tweeted by ESPN’s Jeff Borzella Thursday night, which if true would make Ward the fourth Ram to enter the portal following VCU’s NIT run this year.

Ward would be joining Mikeal Brown-Jones, Marcus Tsohonis and Jimmy Nichols Jr. in exiting the program via transfer, with Vince Williams, KeShawn Curry and Levi Stockard leaving for professional opportunities following their senior years for a total of seven outbound Rams from this year’s third place A-10 finisher.
Ward was one of the conference’s top shot-blockers and a 2021 All-Defensive team selection. The 6’9 forward started 24 games for the Rams this past season, averaging 6.5 points,4.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks for the black and gold. He ranked third on the team in player efficiency rating and overall box plus/minus.
VCU has announced one transfer coming into this program so far with the commitment of Michigan transfer and former top-100 guard, Zeb Jackson. They have seven scholarship players returning from last year’s team and two top-100 freshmen recruits set to join the program.
