Game Preview: VCU v Pitt – Legends Classic Consolation Game

VCU looks to bounce back after dropping a disappointing contest against Arizona State last night, a game the Rams led for the majority of the contest, but after an abysmal second of shooting, saw the black and gold end up on the losing end. The consolation prize? A matchup with former Rams head coach, Jeff Capel, and his equally hurting Pitt Panthers, an ACC opponent coming off a 31-point blowout loss to the Michigan team two of VCU’s key transfers played for just this past season.

One quick nugget from the preview for those of you d'jerks who don't read those: VCU's current 99.4 offensive rating puts this team on pace for the worst offensive season since kenpom has been tracking the stat (2001-2002 season). Now, do I think we stay at that number? Probably not. But lord help us if we do!

Turnovers, man. Just an absolute killer.

Two things about Jeff ... it was either his cousin or nephew, Julian Capel, who played for VCU as a walk-on and even started on Senior Night .... Also, Jeff's dad, JC2, came to games at The Stu and watched from the back row on the north side, keeping very low profile. Jeff's father, of course, coached at ODU and before that at Fayetteville State.
