With the #1-seed firmly in hand for the A10 Tournament, VCU (24-7, 15-3 A10) didn’t show any signs of slowing their roll.
After taking a three point lead into the locker room, the Rams led Colonials by as many as 17 points in the second half en route to a 74-68 win to close the regular season.
That lead ballooned behind four triples from David Shriver in just over three minutes over play in the second half.
Shriver scored 12 of VCU’s 14 points during that stretch with the other field goal coming from a dunk by Brandon Johns Jr.
With 12 points to end the night, Shriver was one of four VCU players in double-digit scoring.
Jalen DeLoach and Jamir Watkins both chipped in 11 points each on the evening.
GW rattled off a late 13-0 run and managed to claw back to a 3 point deficit with just 1:12 remaining.
A dunk by John’s Jr ended the GW run with 25 seconds left on the game clock and pushed the VCU lead to two possessions.
Johns Jr tallied a double-double on the night and led the Rams with both 17 points and 10 rebounds.
A turnover by the Colonials with just 15 seconds on the clock turned into 2 made free throws from Zeb Jackson.
Jackson ended the night with 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.
A pair of free throws by Ace Baldwin with 6 seconds left on the clock would be enough to close this game out for the Rams.
Baldwin lead the Rams with both 7 assists and 2 steals to go with his 6 points.
The Rams enter the A10 Tournament with a coveted double-bye with their first game coming on Thursday, March 9th at 11:30am ET. They will face the winner of the 8/9 seed in Game 4 of the tournament. VCU’s quarterfinal matchup will be broadcast on the USA Network.
