Black & Gold game rosters set in new format

VCU put the reigns in the hands of their returning backcourt this year to choose the teams for Saturday's Black & Gold game. Guards Ace Baldwin and Jayden Nunn are acting as captains for the teams, the duo drafting their squads today as follows:

Ace Baldwin (captain, PG)
David Shriver (G/F)
Fats Billups (G/F)
Jalen DeLoach (F/C)
Josh Banks (G/F)
Nick Kern (G/F)
Obinnaya Okafor (F/C)

Jayden Nunn (captain, G)
Arnold Henderson (G)
Brandon Johns (F)
Christian Fermin (F/C)
Jamir Watkins (G/F)
Tobi Lawall (F)
Zeb Jackson (G)

Team Ace features the most returning VCU talent while Team Nunn has four new faces to VCU fans. Nunn was able to snag both Michigan transfers in the draft, while Baldwin opted for the likes of Jalen DeLoach, Josh Banks and Nick Kern, three players who have logged many minutes together as VCU teammates, which could give Baldwin and Co. a chemistry advantage versus Nunn's squad that features five players who were highly recruited out of high school. That group is perhaps headlined by Johns, a senior transfer who ranked 70th nationally coming out of high school by 247Sports, then went on to start for Michigan in the 2021 Elite 8.

The teams will tip it up 7PM this Saturday night at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
