Multiple sources have confirmed today that VCU junior guard Marcus Evans has suffered an injury to his achilles tendon. Evans, who had to sit out the last season under NCAA transfer rules, was poised to fill the starting point guard position for VCU for the 2018-2019 season.

It is not known yet the full extent or seriousness of the injury, or which achilles was effected. However, it is worth noting that Evans recently completed full recovery from a torn achilles which occurred in June of 2017 while playing pickup ball with his teammates at VCU.

If the injury is as serious as his previous tear, VCU will need to fill the starting point guard position, and would likely look to either incoming freshman P.J. Byrd to fill that role, or junior guard Malik Crowfield, who has been used at the position at times in his last two seasons at VCU.

Marcus Evans spent two seasons at Rice University under then head coach Mike Rhoades. While at Rice, Evans averaged 21.4 ppg as a freshman, 19 ppg as a sophomore, and made first team all-Conference USA both seasons. When Rhoades was hired at VCU as head coach, Evans decided to follow, and transferred to VCU.
