VCU's loss to the University of Richmond yesterday pales in comparison to the news following the game: Briante Weber's career at VCU is done.
Weber tore his ACL and MCL when his right knee buckled after a jump stop late in last night's game. The senior point guard came down hard in traffic, then had to be carried off the court before returning on crutches. An MRI following the game confirmed the severity of the injury.
Weber was just 12 steals away from the NCAA's all-time steals record. He had six in the loss to Richmond.
The senior point guard was having perhaps his best season at VCU, averaging career highs in steals (3.9) and assists (4.3) and was connecting on a career-best 41.4% of his three-point attempts.
The personification of havoc, Briante led the nation in steals percentage all four seasons at VCU, culminating in a career-best 8.7% steals percent this season. His 374 steals are both VCU and Atlantic 10 records.
