With VCU defeating Wofford and New Hampshire beating Cornell, the championship match up for the first ever Holiday on the Hardwood Tournament was set.
The Wildcats of New Hampshire, out of the American East conference, entered the tournament with a statement to make after losing their two prior match ups against Army and Rhode Island.
The Rams wouldn't help out the Wildcats' cause as they looked to start a winning streak of their own as they handled New Hampshire 78-65, winning the tournament on their home court.
The game saw two Rams scoring 20 plus points on the night. Junior Brad Burgess led Rams in scoring with 24 points on the night with a jaw dropping performance from the Midlothian native. The other was Richmond native, Brandon Rozzell with 23 points, shooting 6-12 from behind the arc.
Seniors Jamie Skeen and Rozzell and Junior Burgess accounted for all of the Rams first half points, Burgess leading the way with 18 followed by Skeen with 14 and Rozzell with 11.
The Rams had the 2nd half performance that they could have only wished for in Birmingham and South Florida, holding a 20 point lead on the Wildcats for most of the 2nd half.
The Rams travel down to Atlanta on January 3rd to face Georgia State to resume conference action.
