Busy recruiting day lands two new VCU Rams

Two commitments in a matter of minutes. Both Gerron Scissum and Korey Billbury committed to VCU on Thursday afternoon and both deserve some feature article shine.

It started with Will Wade getting his first commitment as head coach at VCU in the form of 6'7 forward, Gerron Scissum.

Scissum was down to Murray State, Ole Miss, Louisiana Tech, Maryland, and VCU. Murray State had been leading that race for some time as he had visited the Racers' campus on multiple occasions.

Wade recruited him at Chattanooga and when he later got the job at VCU, Scissum expressed interest in visiting campus. He took an official visit last weekend and committed to Coach Wade and the Rams today.

Scissum averaged 16.4 ppg, 9.0 rpg and shot 40.2% from 3-point range during his senior season at Lee-Huntsville (AL), led the Generals to the state semifinals, was named Class 6A first-team All-State and was finalist for 6A Player of the Year. The 6'7 forward is an ideal replacement for the role former 2015 commit Jordan Murphy would have filled at VCU as a system guy who plays hard with a blue-collar work ethic.

Wade followed that up by adding his second commitment of the day in the form of 6'3 Oral Roberts transfer, Korey Billbury.

Billbury was a redshirt junior this past season and is immediately eligible. He averaged 14.4 ppg and 7.4 rpg for the Golden Eagles last season as a combo guard.

With the graduation of one of VCU's all-time greats in Treveon Graham, Billbury is ideally placed to fill some of the void left by Graham's departure as a power guard who scores and really pounds the glass.

Billbury joins a back court that will be one of the better ones in the Atlantic 10 this season.

Coach Wade really knocked this one out of the park from a need and talent standpoint.

VCU's new coaching staff has hit the ground running and will reportedly look to add another a transfer and a center with the remaining 2 scholarships.
