The Rams entered the 2nd half of the CBI semis a point down, but quickly jumped ahead with a 21-8 run and never looked back.
The result, a 13-point win and a ticket to the CBI finals. That's right, finals...as in two, maybe three more games against a 23-11 St. Louis Billikens squad out of the Atlantic 10 conference.
The Rams will attempt to win their first postseason tournament in best of three fashion. The CBI's unique format is more NBA than the win or go home structure of the NCAA and NIT tournaments.
The series kicks off in Richmond, as the Rams host the opening game this Monday at the Stuart C. Siegel Center (7PM). Unfortunately for the Black and Gold, they won't have a chance to lift the trophy in front of a home crowd, as St. Louis will host games 2 and 3.
This will the Billikens first post season tournament under Head Coach Rick Majerus.
Majerus has lead four teams to post season play, including a spot in the NCAA National Title game with the Utah Utes in '98.
St. Louis finished 4th in an incredibly competitive A10 conference, sandwiched between Richmond and Rhode Island, both of which lost two the Rams in non-conference road games. They're lead by sophomore's Willie Reed and Kwamain Mitchell. The pair averages a combined 28.7 points per game.
