Colonials cruise past the Rams; 80-56

VCU traveled up 95 North on Saturday to face George Washington University. In their first meeting on January 20th, the Rams beat the Colonials by 24. This time around, it would be George Washington with the emphatic 80-56 win.

GW head coach Maurice Joseph knew exactly how to beat VCU, stop senior Justin Tillman. Sure, it’s no surprise but it’s easier said than done. Today, the Colonials made it look easy.

Tillman was limited to just 3 points in the first half, going 1 of 4 from the field. He would end with 11 points, leading all Rams in scoring. He would also grab 13 rebounds.

The below 500 Colonials had VCU’s number right from the jump. GW controlled the game from the beginning. After leading by 18 at halftime, GW wouldn’t see their biggest lead until 6 minutes left to go with a 33 point advantage. In the second half, the Colonials would maintain about a 30 point lead.

Sophomore De’Riante Jenkins contributed with 10 points. GW Senior Yuta Watanabe led all scores with 23 points.

VCU has lost 4 of their last 5 games. This was the first time this season George Washington had consecutive wins in conference play.

The loss moves VCU to 15-12 (7-7) on the season. The Rams will travel to Massachusetts on Wednesday, February 21st at 7pm. The game will be televised on MASN.
