Raise your hand if you actually saw Troy Daniels' three-point game-winner the other night against Portland...in realtime.
I'll be honest, I am one of many VCU fans who wish they hadn't stopped watching after the first two games in which Troy, like the rest of us, could only sit and watch as one of VCU fans' new favorite squads, the Houston Rockets, allowed Portland to defeat them not once but TWICE on their own floor, thus erasing Houston's home court advantage to start the series 0-2.
Unlike Troy's "never-give-up" attitude that saw him go from undrafted free agent, to NBA D-Leaguer, to playoff hero, I threw in the towel, not wanting to stay up past midnight to watch yet another late ending in which Troy finished with another "DNP - coaches decision" next to his name (in fairness: I had a 18-hour day ahead of me).
Well odds are VCU fans are ready for a late night tonight.
Daniels saw just over 20 minutes of action in Houston's first 2014 playoff win, including in the final seconds where he hit the go-ahead three-pointer on a mad scramble play that sealed the victory for H-town. Just roughly two weeks after playing a game with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Daniels etched his name into Rockets playoff lore and may just have helped prolong his NBA career as well.
He could have a chance to dig those letters in even deeper tonight as Houston looks to even the series at two in a road game at the Rose Hill Arena where Daniels went 1-1 in NCAA tournament games and is now above .500 overall after his first road NBA playoff experience.
The Rockets will take on Portland tonight at 9:30PM on TNT.
