President Michael Rao introduced former Niagra AD, Ed McLaughlin, as VCU's new Athletic Director in front of a Siegel Center audience today. McLaughlin leaves his Niagara post of six years to lead the Rams into a new era of Atlantic 10 athletics.
“I relish the opportunity to lead VCU athletics into the next phase of success while serving as a leading member of the university community,” McLaughlin said. “I know the opportunity for success at VCU has no limits, including the ability to win NCAA championships and to build leaders who excel in the classroom and in competition.”
During his time at Niagara, McLaughlin raised revenue by a half-million dollars and created the Niagara Sports Network, a television network that broadcasts men’s basketball and hockey. And like Teauge before him, the 39-year old McLaughlin spearheaded several multi-million dollar facility projects, including renovations to Niagara's hockey and basketball arenas.
McLaughlin served stints at American University and Merrimack College prior to his previous position with the Purple Eagles, and comes to VCU as a graduate of Boston College with a B.A. in political science and American University where he earned his master's in health promotion management.
