On the same night the black and gold kicks off the season, one of our favorite sons...Eric Maynor, will get the start just 9 games into the season against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Maynor will start due to injuries to Jazz guard Ronnie Price. Deron Williams will miss tonight's game due to a family matter.

"I'm excited to play any game," Maynor said, "but to be able to come out here and get a start, my first career NBA start, I'm very excited."

At 3-5, the Jazz are reeling and are due for some sort of change in the lineup. Maynor has a great shot tonight to build on his most recent performance, a 15 minute, 6 point, 4 assist outing in Boston, and secure more future minutes upon Williams' return.

Maynor worked out for the 76ers this offseason prior to the NBA Draft, and many had penciled him in at that 17th spot with Philadelphia. The 76ers opted for UCLA guard Jrue Holiday (averaging 3.8 points this season) and Maynor fell to 20th. The two will get a chance to meet tonight.
