The Rams added another key piece to next season's team today, picking up a commitment from Longwood grad transfer Khris Lane.
A Richmond native who played high school ball at both Meadowbrook and Benedictine, Lane chose VCU over the likes of Pittsburgh, Wake Forest and 2017 A-10 tourney champ, Rhode Island. The 6'6 245-lb forward was Longwood's team captain and leading score this past season, averaging career-highs in points (17.1) and rebounds (7.3). He's the second transfer secured by VCU's new staff to have averaged over 17 points with his previous team -- Rice transfer Marcus Evans averaged 19 points but will be forced to sit due to NCAA transfer rules.
Lane played two seasons at Longwood after transferring following his freshman year at Drexel. As a graduate transfer he'll be immediately eligible to play for VCU next season.
In terms of player comparisons, Lane is somewhat in the Jamie Skeen mold, hitting 35.9% of his 131 career three-point attempts and is an efficient interior scorer who finished just under 59% of his twos this past year (62.7% in conference play).
He becomes one of two recent transfers who will be eligible to play next season, joining 2016 Maine transfer Issac Vann (16.4 ppg) as a new face in next year's lineup. They'll join freshmen recruits Sean Mobley and Marcus Santos-Silva as newcomers on the team with two open roster spots still to be filled.
