Graham speaks softly, carries a redwood

Excuse me if I've written this blog once before, but Treveon Graham is quietly dominating teams and that deserves repeating.

The sophomore was given the task of filling in for the legendary Bradford Burgess, if not by the coaching staff certainly by the media, 11 games in not only has he met expectations, he's exceeded them.

According to stat master Ken Pomeroy's KenPom.com, Graham's 122.2 offensive rating ranks tops in the Atlantic 10 among players used at least 24% of their teams possessions. Some statistical comparisons from recent seasons: Harrison Barnes ('12), Marcus Morris ('10), and Chris Douglas-Roberts ('07), the first two of which were NBA lottery picks, the later a second-rounder.

Graham leads the Rams in scoring at 14.5 points per game, is second in rebounds at 5.5, fourth in 3-point% shooting at 37%, and second in field goal% among Rams with 20+ attempts at 49%.

Despite his team-leading scoring average, he has led VCU in points in less than half of games played (five: Duke, Memphis, Missouri, Belmont and Florida Gulf Coast), on two of those occasions sharing the lead with at least one other player.

Having watched all of those games, I can't recall a dunk among his 160 total points scored.

What he lacks in flash however, he makes up in pure grit.

A matchup nightmare -- too strong for opposing guards, too fast for opposing forwards -- the 6'5 215lb Graham has made a living doing the dirty work and often looks more like an NFL running back than NCAA G/F as he tucks the ball while cutting through the lane for a basket.

His free throw makes (39) and attempts (52) are both tops on the team. His 37 offensive rebounds lead VCU, while his 3.4 per game are second in the Atlantic 10 to only 6'8 St. Joseph's forward Ronald Roberts, who logs 5 extra minutes per night.

On the court Graham trades in flash for production. Off the court he's as soft-spoken as we've seen in the post-game press room.

But as they say, when your work speaks for itself...don't interrupt.
