The Richmond Christmas Mother program has made the holiday season brighter for local families for some 80 years now. This year's Christmas Mother is going to wreak serious havoc on 2014's fundraising campaign to continue that support as VCU First Lady, Maya Smart, was selected as the youngest Christmas Mother in the history of the honor! We love that.
Well, Maya and her elves at VCURamNation.com need your help. We're trying to spread the word to raise $5k by Tuesday night to support the following: We will lift the spirits of 5,000 active duty military and families with a hot meal and a small gift as they pass through Richmond International Airport during the holidays. We’ll help a nonprofit preschool put on a holiday extravaganza, delivering hope and cheer to a struggling neighborhood. We’ll lighten the burden of holiday meals and gift-giving for families saddled with sick children’s health-care expenses. We’ll make sure that families in need can get emergency assistance during the holidays, along with warm coats, hats and gloves. We’ll finance pantry staples for kids who typically rely on school meals, so they don’t go hungry over winter break. We’ll help deliver homemade holiday meals for hundreds of home-bound seniors and disabled adults.
Donations of all sizes are accepted--and greatly appreciated. The number and diversity of people supporting the campaign means a great deal to Maya, beyond the total dollar amount raised.
