The Rams played with the energy that let you believe they havent forgotten about that loss.
Beating the Green wave of Tulane, 70-67, was just the first step to getting back on track. Tulane (6-3) is out of Conference USA and fell to the Rams last year in New Orleans.
Coach Smart's havoc style defense caused big problems for the Green Wave early. Tulane shot just 37.9% from the field againsts VCU's 63.6% in the first half.
It was the tale of two bigs for the Rams. We saw early productive minutes from freshman, Juvonte Reddic who ended the game with 7 points and 4 rebounds in 17 minutes. Senior Jamie Skeen gave another hard faught effort with 15 points and 6 rebounds, all defensive.
VCU scored 32 of their 70 points in the paint but the Rams fell a little short from behind the arc going 6 out of 21.
The Green Wave came out gunning in the second half giving the Rams a taste of their own medicine. The constant lead of about 10 points was cut down to 2 in the final minutes after Tulane was able to convert off of several take aways from the Rams.
VCU guards, collectively, had a good night. Senior Joey Rodriguez managed to chip in 8 points, 3 assists, Freshman Rob Brandenberg dropped in 8 points while Sophomore Darius Theus scored only 5 points but also had 5 assists in the win.
Rams travel to Birmingham, AL December 21st to take on University of Alabama at Birmingham a remtach of the 2008 NIT loss.
