RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Men’s basketball standout Korey Billbury will continue his hoops career in 2016-17 with Italian pro club U.S. Basket Recanati.
Billbury is the 24th VCU Men’s Basketball player to sign a professional contract since the end of the 2003-04 season.
“I am excited to begin my pro career in a beautiful country like Italy,” Billbury said in a team press release. “I've heard great things about Recanati and its people. I am grateful for the opportunity."
Located in the city of the same name, Recanati plays in Italy’s Serie A2 league. The team finished 8-22 in 2015-16.
"Korey is a player who has had significant experience at the college level having played in a very competitive conference like the Atlantic 10 where he had the chance to compete at the highest levels by playing against a selection of players of the highest level,” said Recanati Head Coach Marco Calvani. “I liked his good reliability in the three-point shot at the same time is a player who knows how to attack the iron with the right hand and with his left.”
The fifth-year senior transfer from Oral Roberts was a critical piece of VCU’s 25-win, Atlantic 10 Co-Championship team. Billbury, who averaged 11.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per game for the Rams, capped his senior campaign with an NCAA win over Oregon State in Oklahoma City.
