RICHMOND, Va. – VCU junior forward Marcus Santos-Silva (Taunton, Mass.) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference’ Co-Player of the Week for the second time this year, the league announced Monday.

Santos-Silva’s honor follows a week in which he led the Rams (12-3, 2-0) to a pair of double-digit conference victories. The 6-foot-7, 250-pound forward averaged 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game, while shooting .652 (15-of-23) from the floor as VCU knocked off Fordham and George Mason to kick off A-10 play.

On Sunday, Santos-Silva tied a career high with 26 points and recorded his fifth double-double of the season (11th career) in a 72-59 win at George Mason. He corralled 12 rebounds, his sixth double-digit rebounding effort of the season. Santos-Silva also supplied 11 points and seven boards in VCU’s 64-46 defeat of Fordham on Jan. 2.

For the season, Santos-Silva, an A-10 Preseason Third Team selection, is averaging team highs of 13.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. In addition, he ranks second in the A-10 and 22nd nationally in field goal percentage (.614).

Santos-Silva and the Rams return to action on Saturday, Jan. 11 when they host Rhode Island at 2 p.m. at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. That game will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network.
