It feels like last year's college hoops season ended two years ago, as summer has officially begun while we countdown the days to the 2014-15 season (101 days away). Some news and notes around the program.

VCU breaks ground
VCU's $25 million practice facility has officially broken ground as the former casket company located behind the Siegel Center makes it's transformation from an old warehouse and parking lot into Shaka's new state-of-the-art recruiting jewel. The facility is scheduled for a completion date of fall of 2015, just in time for a new stable of top-100 2015 recruits.
Recruiting news
Speaking of recruits, a number of potential 2015 Rams sharpened their skills just down 64 West in Charlottesville at this year's NBA Top-100 Camp. Top-50 point guard and a VCU target, Jawun Evans, was said to be the most "havoc wreaking" point guard at the camp while targets Levan Alston, Kenny Williams and Tevin Mack impressed with their ability to put points on the board and play a number of positions.

NBA Draft this Thursday
The 2014 NBA Draft goes down this Thursday night and while a long shot, VCU's Juvonte Reddic could sneak into Thursday's draft after seeing his name on mock draft's earlier this year. Reddic has officially dropped out of NBADraft.net's Mock Draft that saw him slide out of the second round, but as a 6'8 250 athlete with a explosion and a shooting touch, could be a surprised pickup late. Either way, Reddic will no doubt found himself on one or more NBA Summer League rosters, and depending on his work ethic, could be the next Troy Daniels to go from undrafted to NBA contract employee.
ESPN names Smart nation's 13th-best coach
ESPN has been counting down their top-50 coaches this offseason and VCU's own Shaka Smart lands at lucky No.13. Smart has led VCU to back-to-back A-10 title games in the Rams' first two seasons in the conference and boasts a recent Final 4 appearance. He has the school's top recruiting class ever coming in with another elite group coming in right after them, so could easily climb those rankings over the next few seasons. VCU will start next season in the top-25 and potentially top-15 as well.
