VCU used a 10-2 run in the closing moments of the first half to take a 36-26 lead into the locker room.
The Rams also lost standout guard, Bones Hyland, in the second half as he appear to hurt his ankle and had to be carried off the court.
Coach Mike Rhoades confirmed that this was a new injury and not related to the recent lingering ailments. Current diagnoses is a "foot sprain" and Hyland will be further evaluated tomorrow.
Despite leaving the game, Hyland led all VCU scorers with 17 points.
