Rams fight off Patriots on Senior Night, 72-66

The evening started with VCU (19-7; 12-3 A10) honoring the four years of dedicated play from seniors, KeShawn Curry and Vince Williams.

But, the second half fo the 72-66 win for the Rams felt like a passing of the torch was on display.

GMU used an 11-1 run to start the second half and take their first lead of the game, 45-40.

Then Mikeal Brown-Jones and Ace Baldwin happened.

Brown-Jones made back-to-back baskets in the second half to keep GMU from extending their lead.

Then, scoring 5 straight points for the Rams, including three from the charity stripe, Brown-Jones pushed the Rams ahead for the final time on the evening.

A 57% free throw shooter coming into tonight, Brown-Jones, dug deep and connect on 5-6 of his second half free throws. He finished the night making 7-8 from the line.

From their, Baldwin scored 8 straight, and Jalen Deloach chipped in a three point play en route to a 16-0 VCU lead.

Over the course of the final 8:16 of play, Deloach was the only Ram besides Brown-Jones and Baldwin to score.

The pair scored 25 of the 33 total points for VCU in the second half.

Baldwin finished the night lead the Rams in basically all statistically categories with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 6 steals.

Brown-Jones finished the night setting a new career-high with 15 points on a perfect 4-4 from the field. He also grabbed 6 rebounds.

It was the second time Brown-Jones has set a new career-high in as many games.

Jayden Nunn scored 13 points for the Rams, with 11 of those points coming in the first half when the Rams were in desperate need of offense.

Curry was the only other Ram in double-digits scoring with 12 points and 6 rebounds.

The Rams took care of the ball—only turning it over 13 times.

Despite only 4 fast break points, VCU was able to convert 18 turnovers into 18 points on the other end of the court.

This Rams have now won 9 of their last 10 games, including 6 straight, dating back to January 22nd.

The Rams will return to action Saturday, February 26th, as they head North to take on UMASS. That game is set to tip at 4:30pm EST and will be broadcast on the USA Network.
