Rams have no problems taming the Monarchs, 77-54

The Rams (5-2) won their third straight contest as they ran over the visiting Monarchs of Old Dominion, 77-54.

A 7-0 start to the game for the Rams seemed to pace how the evening would play out. It was nearly 4 minutes before ODU eventually got their first field goal.

VCU played a near flawless first half of basketball to take a 40-22 lead into the locker room at half.

The Rams turned 9 first half ODU turnovers into 11 points.

Only two of the Rams 40 points in the first half came from the fast break. The other 38 points came from set plays and the free throw line.

VCU shot an impressive 56% from the floor in the first half, including 45% from distance. The Rams ended the evening with a 47% shooting while connecting on 7-21 (33%) from long range.

The Rams held a cushion much of the second half as they hovered around the +20 margin on the scoreboard.

VCU out-rebounded ODU 40 to 29.

Bones Hyland led the Rams as he swiped a career-high 6 steals. The Rams finished with 10 steals overall as the Monarchs turned the ball over a season-high 17 times.

Hyland led all-scorers with 15 points.

Vince Williams records a team-high 8 rebounds to go with his 11 points.

Mikeal Brown-Jones was the only other Ram in double digit scoring with 10 points and 5 rebounds.

VCU returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 15th as they host the Catamounts of Western Carolina. That game is set to tip at 7pm EST and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
