An experienced VCU team will enter the season with high expectations and perhaps some added pressure to boot, having been chosen as the Atlantic 10's top team entering the season. VCU picked up 14 of the 30 preseason No.1 votes with five other conference teams picking up at least one first place vote as well.

The Rams likely earned that rank thanks to three all-conference selections on the roster. Max Shulga nearly ended up at Villanova this offseason, but instead returned to the Rams for a second consecutive season and finds himself as VCU's lone preseason First Team all-conference selection. Experienced backcourt mates, Zeb Jackson and Joe Bamisile, earned Second Team honors. Jackson added an All-Defensive team selection as well.

The Rams were picked to finish second in last season's preseason poll before finish fifth in the final regular season standings. VCU found another gear in tournament time however, advancing to the conference tournament final for the second consecutive season. The Rams have played in the Atlantic 10 tournament final in 10 of the 13 tournament championship games that have been played since joining the conference.

Ram fans will get a first look at a mostly familiar roster this coming Saturday when VCU's host their annual Black & Gold scrimmage game at the Siegel Center.
