Rams pull away from Panthers in final exhibition, 98-74

In the final exhibition exhibition game of the year, VCU took down crosstown Virginia Union University, 98-74.

Offense didn't come easy for the Rams in the opening minutes as they shot as low as 29% before finding their rhythm. Rams ended the half on on a 16-6 run over the final 4 minutes.

The Rams pulled back up to 42% from the floor on 15-36 shooting at the half. Khris Lane ended the first half with 12pts, 4rebs, and 3 blocks in only 13 minutes of action. He was also a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.

VCU would shoot 51% from the floor on the night.

Lane finished the night with 21pts, 8 rebs, and 3 blocks. He lead all players in scoring on the night.

Crowfield added 8 points in the final three minutes of the first half to give the Rams the 43-28 lead going into the locker room. He would end the night shooting 4-8 from long range and netting 16pts.

Redshirt-sophomore, Issac Vann, ended his night with back-to-back authoritative on-handed dunks. He also contributed 5-6 from the free throw line and 6-11 from the floor for 17 points.

Jonathan Williams put up 11 points to go with his 6 assists and only 2 turnovers.

De'riante Jenkins (13) and Mike'l Simms (10) would be the only other Rams to score in double-digits on the evening.

While the offense was certainly flashy and fun, the defense was relentless and focused.

VUU turned the ball over 23 times--leading to 29 points for the Rams. VCU only turned the ball over 12 times.

Eight Rams would record at least one steal on the night. The team finished with 16 steals.

The Rams will host Grambling State on Friday, November 10th at 7pm, for the official 2017-18 season opener.

This will also be the 100th consecutive sellout for the Rams at the E.J. Wade Arena.
