VCU battled a pesky Radford Highlanders squad led by former Rams assistant Mike Jones, proving too much for the Big South opponent and turned an early close game into a 92-74 rout.

Melvin Johnson paced the Rams throughout the night, leading all players with 24 points on 9-16 shooting in front of VCU's 68th consecutive sellout game.

Johnson was joined by guard Korey Billbury with 15 points and Mike Gilmore who turned in an extremely efficient 12 points on 4-4 shooting off the bench including a perfect 2-2 from deep including a one-man 8-point run that helped turn VCU's double-digit lead into a blowout during the second half.

JeQuan Lewis added 13 points and led all players with eight assists on the evening. The Rams racked up 21 in total and connected on 47.6% of their shots on the night.

The Rams forced another 20 turnovers but were plagued with foul trouble most of the night. The black and gold were whistled for 22 fouls altogether including five on sophomore Justin Tillman in limited minutes.

The win moves VCU to 2-0 on the season headed into a Friday night matchup against the defending National Champion Duke Blue Devils as a part of the 2K Classic at Madison Square Garden.
