PJ Byrd will bring his talents from Richmond, Texas to Richmond, VA next year after announcing a commitment to play his college ball at VCU today. The 6'1 3-star point guard had taken a very recent visit to Boise State, but opted to go with Mike Rhoades and the black and gold. Rhoades and staff began their recruitment of the Texas product during their time at Rice and continued that effort during their move to VCU and the Atlantic 10.
Byrd has been described as a tough kid with a "VCU mentality". He's true point guard and floor general, a player with elite level passing and great court vision.
He'll join the team as a a point guard following the 2018 graduation of senior point guard Johnny Williams and could contribute early for the Rams.
Byrd was the District 20-6A MVP last season for Ford Bend Bush High School, winning the district championship in each of his years so far at Byrd and advancing to the regional title game as well.
