Fast Start Fuels First-Half Rout
VCU wasted no time asserting control, knocking down six of their first eight three-point attempts en route to a commanding 46-22 halftime lead. Max Shulga led the charge, drilling his first four shots—all from beyond the arc—on his way to 14 first-half points. The Rams finished the period shooting 44% (8-18) from deep, while UMass went 0-4 from beyond the arc.The highlight of the half came from Joe Bamisile, who threw down back-to-back dunks, the second coming off a Brandon Jennings block and an excellent feed up the court. Bamisile and Christian Fermin each recorded three dunks in the opening half as VCU overwhelmed the Minutemen with their athleticism.
Lockdown Defense Stifles UMass
The Rams turned defense into offense all night, finishing with 11 blocks, including multiple swats from Luke Bamgboye, who set a new career-high of seven. VCU also owned the assist battle, leading 13-2 at halftime and finishing with a dominant 19-5 edge in that category.UMass struggled mightily against the Rams' defensive intensity, managing just 32% shooting from the field and failing to hit a single three-pointer (0-10).
