Recap: Rams push past Patriots, 79-63

VCU (15-6, 6-2 A10) poured in seven second half three-pointers as they buried George Mason, 79-63.

The two teams traded baskets for most of the first half before the Rams used an 8-2 run to separate themselves before the half.

Sophomore Marcus Santos-Silva scored six of his ten points in the first half, but was only able to log 7 minutes of action in the first 20 minutes as he found himself in foul trouble.

VCU relied heavily on the their depth chart tonight as the Rams bench contributed 26 points overall.

The Patriots  trailed 41-30 at the half, but used a 14-5 run in the first five minutes to close that margin. With 10:40 on the clock, George Mason tied the game at 52 on a layup from Jason Douglas-Stanley.

Then the Rams found their shot from deep.

Michael Gilmore hit two of his three triples when the Rams needed them most.

For added cushion, Mike'l Simms (3pts/2reb/2stl)  followed those up with a three pointer of his own.

Gilmore ended night with 11 points on 3-4 shooting from deep. The senior also recorded 2 rebounds and 1 steal on the evening.

The back-to-back-to-back triples broke the final tie of the game and pushed the Rams back up to a 9 point lead—one they wouldn't surrender again.

Redshirt Junior, Isaac Vann, scored a game-high 21 points as well as adding 3 rebounds and 4 assist to his stat line. He connected on three long-range shots while shooting 6-8 overall, and 6-7 from the free throw line.

Marcus Evans was the only other Ram in double-digit scoring with 11 points to go with his game-high 5 assists.

VCU returns to action Wednesday, February 6th as they head to Foggy Bottom to take on the Colonials of George Washington. That game is set to tip-off at 7pm EST.
