Recap: VCU bounces back, takes down Iona, 88-59

VCU (6-2) rallied behind electric first half shooting to take down the Gaels of Iona, 88-59.

The Rams shot an impressive 47% from both the field overall and from three-point land in the first half.

Junior, Mike'l Simms, made 3 of the Rams 9 first half three-pointers. Simms would end the night with 11 points on 60% shooting from deep.

Marcus Evans also ended the night shooting 3-5 from three point range. The redshirt-junior was the game-high leader with 19 points.

Evans was able to grab 6 boards and 3 steals to go with his 80% (8-10) free-throw shooting.

In all, four Rams would finish the game with double-digit scoring: Corey Douglas and Marcus Santos-Silva joined Simms and Evans.

Santos-Silva also grabbed a team-high 9 rebounds to go with his 12 points.

Douglas was able to use 23 minutes to put up 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 blocks.

The Gaels struggled with the pressure defense of VCU, turning the ball over 23 times.

VCU ended the night with 14 steals and translated those 23 turnovers into 27 points.

Iona was only able to convert 8 VCU turnovers into 3 points.

VCU will return to action on on Wednesday, Dec. 5th as the Rams travel to Austin to take on the Longhorns of Texas. That game is scheduled to tip off at 8pm EST.
