RECAP: VCU cruises to victory against Fordham, 76-51

VCU (10-4, 1-0) cruised to victory in their first conference game of the season as they traveled to the Bronx and downed the Fordham Rams by 25 points.

The VCU defense has remained consistent all season, and didn't let up today as it held Fordham to 33% overall shooting, and 28% from three.

It would take the Rams of Fordham nearly 5 minutes before they scored their first basket of the game. During which VCU held Fordham to 0-7 shooting from the floor, and forced 3 turnovers.

Fordham would finish the day with 18 turnovers which led to 18 points for VCU.

The achilles heel for VCU today was their own turnovers (19) which led to 19 points for the home team. That would account for just over 37% of Fordham's points for the whole game.

Shooting was not an issue for the VCU Rams today as they rounded out the afternoon with an insurmountable 67% (30-45) overall shooting percentage, while also knocking down 44% of their three-pointers (7-16).

Marcus Evans led all-scorers with 17 points while shooting a perfect 100% across the board: 6-6 FG, 1-1 3PTR, and 4-4 FT. The point guard was also able to pull in three steals, and tied De'Riante Jenkins (6pts) for a team-high 3 assists.

Big man, Marcus Santos-Silva, was responsible for 13 points for VCU and matched a team-high 4 rebounds.

Jenkins and Isaac Vann (6pts) also had 4 rebounds on the afternoon.

The only other Ram to enter double-digits in the contest was Sophomore, Sean Mobley, who earned the start for todays game after nursing a knee injury over the past several weeks.

Mobley piled on 12 points as he hit two of his four threes en route to a 58% shooting afternoon.

VCU will return to action on Wednesday, January 9th, as they host their first home game of the conference schedule taking on the Explorers of La Salle.

That matchup is set to start at 7pm EST and will be broadcast on MASN.
