The VCU faithful packed the Siegel Center Tuesday night to see VCU snap a three game losing streak. The Rams welcomed in the Buffalo Bulls out of the Mid-American Conference. The weather was probably the warmest thing about the Bulls trip down south as VCU would hand them a cold loss, 90-69.

The first half saw 5 lead changes and was ugly but fairly evenly matched. The first half saw a combined total of 32 turnovers, 20 from Buffalo and 12 from VCU. Both teams would shoot 50% from the field but it would senior Melvin Johnson who would lead a VCU offensive run that would put VCU up, 40-27 at halftime.

A breakaway lay up by Johnson with just under 1 minute in the first half would be the senior’s first field goal in 59 consecutive minutes of play.

In the second half, VCU would pull away even more from Buffalo. Johnson would lead all scorers with 22 points on the night. Once again, senior Korey Billbury would hit double digits in points for VCU ending with 15 on the night.

VCU had a major presence right around the basket scoring 48 of their 90 points on the night from inside the paint. It also helped that VCU ended up taking 25 more field goals than Buffalo (69 vs 44).

The night would see 3 VCU players score in the double digits, Johnson, Billbury and senior Ahmed Hamdy Mohamed. Sophomore Justin Tillman would also prove to play a large role on the glass grabbing 7 rebounds for the Rams.

The last time VCU snapped a 3 game losing streak (last year) they went on to win the next 5 games straight.

VCU moves to 6-5 on the season and will host Liberty University on Sunday, December 27th at 5pm.
