VCU (17-5, 5-2)  snapped a two-game losing streak tonight, surviving a 70-64 road battle at Rhode Island (6-13, 1-5).
Sophomore and VCU leading scorer, Treveon Graham, carried the Rams early, scoring 11 of his 19 points in the first half and giving the Rams a 1-point lead heading into the break.
The Rams had nine turnovers to URI's seven at the half, connected on just 1-of-8 3-point attempts and allowed 50% shooting, yet were up 29-28 to start the second.
The teams traded runs throughout the remainder of the game, but VCU never surrendered the lead.
The black and gold extended their lead to 15 with a Juvonte Reddic bucket at the 4:00 mark, two of his 16 second half points. Rhode Island answered however with a 10-0 to cut the lead to five with 2:02 left to play.
Once again, it was Juvonte Reddic coming up with the big rebounds and baskets late, getting a second-chance basket to extend the lead to seven, then hitting two big free throws with 28 seconds to play to take the lead to 8.
Reddic's 18 points and 12 rebounds was good for his third-straight double-double, and fourth in five games. The junior big has seven on the season and is averaging 16.1 points in 10.4 rebounds in conference games.
Darius Theus finished with 11 points of his own, all coming in the second half. Theus added four assists, three steals and three rebounds in the win.
VCU turned URI over 18 times but ended up losing the TO battle by one.
This was the first game the Rams have won this season in which they have forced fewer turnovers than their opponent.
The Rams return to Richmond where they'll prepare for a Saturday homecoming tip against yet another group of Rams, this time those of a Fordham team coached by former Hofstra head coach Tom Pecora.
