And with friends like you it is even easier." - Dr. Gene Hunt
That's the last thing I heard from Gene (in an email) and I don't know that he could have picked a better thing to say to me.
Dr. Gene Hunt passed away last night and I can think of no better way to honor him than to share that tiniest of stories. VCU brought us together. Two very different folks sharing this common bond and we're essentially VCU family members because of it. So in the memory of Gene please keep that in mind this season, this up-coming offseason and every second you involve yourself with VCU and VCU Athletics. The wins are fun but the relationships and memories we make along the way are ultimately what matters. I'll carry my memories of Gene with me to every game, every tournament and every gathering of Ram fans I'm ever involved in. He'll always be in the building as long as he and others we have lost are always in our hearts.
Thanks VCU basketball for introducing me to Dr. Hunt. It's easy to be a Ram fan but even easier with friends like Gene.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Woody Funeral Homes’ Parham Chapel, 1771 N. Parham Road.
