Top-100 wing, Alphonzo Billups, chooses VCU

VCU added another huge piece to their 2022 class today, this time in the form of 6'7 local product, Alphonzo Billups. The Varina High School hooper chose the Rams over a stacked list of teams that included LSU, Texas A&M, Pittsburgh, NC State and Oklahoma State (note: two of which, LSU and Pitt, are coached by former VCU Head Coaches). Billups ranks No.90 overall in 247Sports.com's recruiting composite rankings.

Billups joins 6'10 Pennsylvania native, Christian Fermin (No.120 nationally in 247Sports' composite rankings) in VCU's 2022 class. Fermin's commitment had VCU as the No.1 A-10 class so far for 2022, which Billups only strengthening the group.

All of Mike Rhoades' classes outside of his first season at VCU have been ranked within the top-2 in A-10 recruiting classes by 247Sports. Billups joins Bones Hyland as Rhoades' second top-100 recruit sense taking over at VCU. Hyland was recently selected as the No.24 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

247Sports described Billups as a wing with "tremendous size", adding he's "a smooth athlete with big size and some shot making ability from deep. This kid oozes upside will be in the discussion for the next edition of the 2022 rankings."
