With sole possesion of first place currently locked up for the Rams, they were not going to look past the current 8 seeded UNCW Seahawks. In front of a packed Stuart C. Segiel Center on homecoming weekend, the Rams found themselves in a tight one but were able to beat the Seahawks 79 -70.

UNCW would just not go away. VCU's largest lead was 17 points halfway through the 2nd half but the Seahawks kept battling and eventually cut it just 8 points with under 4 mintues in the game.

Injuries have been the story for the Rams lately. First it was senior Brandon Rozzell with a broken right hand he suffered in practice a few weeks ago, next it was Jamie Skeen with a sprained knee during the Hofstra game and this match up against UNCW saw another Ram go down. Sophomore Troy Daniels, who got his first start for the Rams tonight, was sidelined just minutes into the game with a right foot injury and was in a boot by the end of the game.

The Rams started off hot shooting 4-5 from behind the arc and ended the first half shooting 50% from three point land as Junior Ed Nixon nailed a three at the buzzer to end the first half.

The Rams were led by the "General', senior guard Joey Rodriguez who scored 4 three pointers and ended with 25 points on the night and 4 rebounds. Junior Bradford Burgess also chipped in 17 points for the Rams. Junior Toby Veal also helped with double digits points with 10 including a monster slam that just about popped the roof off of the Segiel center.

Turnovers also played a factor in the loss for the Seahawks as they turned the ball over 18 times on the night while the Rams limited their turnovers to just 8.

The Rams will travel to Boston to face Northeastern on February 2nd which will start a 3 game road trip and will return to the Stu on February 12th to host CAA rivals ODU.
